Silent Passage captures one of those rare moments in nature that feels almost unreal. At dawn in eastern Greenland, while our ship lay anchored near a glacier, I noticed a polar bear quietly swimming through the darkness, its pale head emerging from the black water and catching the faintest trace of early light. Only the watchman and I were on deck to witness it, making the encounter feel intensely private and fleeting. Presented as a large wall piece, the vast negative space surrounding the bear emphasizes the solitude, stillness, and immense scale of the Arctic, while the small illuminated figure becomes the quiet focal point of an otherwise nearly limitless darkness.
