Selected Works is a curated chronological collection spanning more than 20 years behind the camera, bringing together images that reflect the evolution of my eye and artistic perspective over time.
MOSSED AT THE FALLS | Beneath the cascading waters of Multnomah Falls, a solitary rock supports a thriving patch of green life. Draped in moss, ferns, and wild vegetation, it stands like a tiny island amid the constant rush of water. The scene is a reminder of nature's resilience. Surrounded by mist and shaped by time, this unlikely garden flourishes in the shadow of one of the Pacific Northwest's most iconic waterfalls, finding beauty and balance in a place where few would expect it.
COLUMBIA AT DAWN | Perched high above the Columbia River Gorge, the historic vista house overlooks one of the Pacific Northwest's most spectacular landscapes. As the last light of day ignites the horizon, the river winds through layers of blue mountains, reflecting the colors of a fading sunset. The scene balances grandeur and serenity. The sweeping gorge conveys a sense of vastness, while the illuminated landmark anchors the landscape with a touch of human history. Together they create a view that has inspired travelers for generations. This image captures that fleeting moment between day and night when the sky glows with color, the river becomes a ribbon of light, and the Columbia Gorge reveals its timeless beauty.
A MOMENT OF GOLD | A slender ribbon of water plunges from the basalt cliffs, descending in graceful silence to the forest floor below. Framed by vibrant greenery and ancient volcanic rock, the waterfall transforms the canyon into a sanctuary of motion, light, and life. The striking columnar formations surrounding the falls reveal the geological forces that shaped this landscape millions of years ago. Today, moss, ferns, and trees soften those rugged walls, creating a beautiful balance between strength and serenity. This image captures the quiet magic of the Pacific Northwest, where water and stone have worked together for centuries to create places that inspire awe, reflection, and a deep connection to the natural world.

BLUE SILENCE
SENTINELS OF THE PACIFIC | As the tide rolls across Bandon Beach, waves weave delicate patterns of motion beneath sea stacks that have stood watch over the Oregon coast for centuries. The soft pastel sky and flowing water create a scene that feels both timeless and serene.Bathed in the gentle colors of twilight, the rugged rocks rise from the Pacific like ancient sentinels, their dark silhouettes contrasting beautifully with the luminous sea. The long exposure transforms the restless ocean into a graceful rhythm of texture and light. This image captures the quiet elegance of the coast, where land, sea, and sky come together in perfect harmony. It is a reminder that even in constant motion, nature can inspire a profound sense of peace.
WHERE THE TIDE REFLECTS THE SKY
EMBERS OVER BANDON | As the sun slips below the horizon, the sky above Bandon Beach erupts in brilliant shades of crimson, magenta, and gold. Reflected across the wet sand and rolling tide, the colors transform the shoreline into a mirror of the evening sky.The iconic sea stacks rise from the Pacific as dark silhouettes, their timeless forms anchoring a scene that feels almost otherworldly. For a few fleeting minutes, the ocean, sky, and land become inseparable, each reflecting the beauty of the other. Some sunsets are beautiful. Others are unforgettable. This image captures one of those rare moments when nature seems determined to put on its finest display, leaving those fortunate enough to witness it standing quietly in awe.

CATHEDRAL OF RUST | More than a century after running aground on the Oregon coast, the remains of the Peter Iredale continue their slow surrender to wind, salt, and time. What was once a proud steel sailing vessel has become a haunting sculpture, shaped not by human hands but by the relentless forces of the Pacific.Seen from within the rusted framework, the ship's skeletal ribs reach toward the sky like the remnants of a forgotten cathedral. Layers of rust, texture, and decay tell a story of endurance, reminding us that even the strongest creations are temporary.Today, the wreck stands not as a symbol of loss, but as a testament to resilience, where history, nature, and artistry converge along the edge of the sea.
THE WRECK OF THE PETER IREDALE | The skeletal remains of the Peter Iredale lean into the sand beneath a turbulent sky, a quiet reminder of time, tide, and the sea’s final claim.
THE LAST CROSSING COLOR
A SECRET THAT FALLS FOREVER | Hidden within a lush canyon of ferns, moss, and towering evergreens, Latourell Falls descends in a single graceful ribbon, creating a scene that feels untouched by time. The monochrome treatment strips away distraction, revealing the quiet interplay of light, texture, and form. The waterfall becomes a luminous thread woven through the darkness of the forest, drawing the eye into a landscape where silence, solitude, and wonder coexist. It is a reminder that nature's most powerful moments are often its most serene.

WINTER ON THE RIM | The Grand Canyon is breathtaking in every season, but winter reveals a side that few people expect. On this frigid morning, the temperature hovered well below freezing as the first light of day crept across the canyon walls. Snow clung to the rim and shaded ledges, creating a striking contrast against the warm reds, purples, and ochres that have made this landscape famous. The Colorado River, barely visible in the distance, wound its way through nearly two billion years of Earth's history. What struck me most was the scale. Standing at the edge, the canyon seemed less like a geological feature and more like an entire world unto itself. Layer upon layer of rock stretched toward the horizon, each revealing a chapter in a story far older than humanity. The winter snow added a sense of quietness, softening the landscape without diminishing its immense power. In moments like this, it becomes impossible not to feel humbled. The cold air, the vast silence, and the sheer magnitude of the canyon create a rare awareness of both our smallness and our connection to something much larger.
RIVER OF TIME | It is difficult to comprehend the Grand Canyon until you stand on its rim and follow the path of the Colorado River below. From this vantage point, the river appears almost delicate, a narrow ribbon of blue winding through an immense landscape of stone. Yet this seemingly modest waterway is the artist responsible for one of the greatest geological masterpieces on Earth. Over millions of years, it patiently carved through layer after layer of rock, revealing a history that spans nearly two billion years. What captivated me about this scene was the contrast between power and subtlety. The river does not dominate the landscape. It quietly threads its way through the canyon, almost disappearing at times. Yet every cliff, terrace, butte, and mesa owes its existence to the persistent work of moving water and time.Standing there, I was reminded that the most profound changes are often not the result of force, but persistence. The Colorado River never rushed. It simply kept flowing.
WHERE TIME RESTS | One of the surprises of the Grand Canyon is not what lies below, but what lies beyond.Standing at the rim, my eyes were naturally drawn into the maze of buttes, mesas, and deep chasms carved into the canyon's depths. Yet beyond all that complexity stretched a remarkably level horizon. The contrast was striking. Millions of years of erosion had sculpted one of the most intricate landscapes on Earth, while the plateau above remained almost perfectly flat. The scene felt like a lesson in perspective. The canyon often steals the attention, but the broad, quiet plateau tells an equally important part of the story. Before the Colorado River began its patient work, this entire region was once part of a vast elevated plain. What remains today is a glimpse into both the landscape that was and the masterpiece that followed. As the last light brushed the upper cliffs, layers of crimson, rose, and gold revealed the canyon's immense depth. The flat horizon beyond served as a reminder that nature's most dramatic creations often begin with something deceptively simple.

SACRED LANGUAGE
THE LONG TURN
SANDSTONE SWIRL | Deep within Cardiac Canyon, the sandstone seemed almost alive.Over countless centuries, wind and water sculpted these flowing curves into shapes that feel more like silk than stone. Every surface twists, bends, and sweeps into the next, creating a natural sculpture that changes with every step and every shift of light. What stopped me in my tracks was not the canyon itself, but the snow.A recent winter storm had left delicate patches of white resting along the canyon walls, as if nature had carefully placed them there by hand. Against the rich reds and oranges of the Navajo sandstone, the snow became something more than a seasonal visitor. It felt like a gentle kiss, accenting the graceful swirl at the heart of the composition without distracting from it.The contrast was fleeting. Within days, perhaps hours, the snow would disappear, leaving only the timeless curves behind. Yet for one brief moment, winter and stone shared the same canvas, transforming an already extraordinary landscape into something even more magical. It was a reminder that some of nature's most beautiful moments are also its most temporary.
THE NARROWING
THE OPENING
LIGHT FINDS A PATH
WINDOW TO THE SKY | Standing deep within the twisting sandstone corridors of Arizona's slot canyons, it's impossible not to see shapes, faces, and symbols hidden within the stone. The human mind is wired to find meaning in abstract forms, and this scene immediately sparked a laugh when I first noticed it.The narrow opening above, framed by centuries of erosion, appeared to convey a message that was unmistakable, at least to my imagination. I jokingly referred to it as "the Navajo's message to the U.S. Government."Of course, the canyon has no political agenda. It is simply the result of water, wind, and time patiently sculpting sandstone over millions of years. Yet that is part of the magic of places like this. Nature creates forms that invite interpretation, allowing each visitor to discover something entirely different. Some see faces. Some see animals. Some see symbols. I saw a bit of humor carved into stone.Beyond the joke, the image speaks to something deeper. These canyon walls existed long before borders, governments, or political debates. They remind us that human conflicts are fleeting, while the forces that shape our planet operate on a scale almost beyond comprehension.Sometimes nature offers perspective. Sometimes it offers a laugh.Occasionally, it manages to do both.
THE LONG AWAKENING | Some landscapes are beautiful. Others are iconic.Monument Valley belongs to the latter.Long before sunrise, I stood in the cold desert darkness waiting for the first hint of light. The towering sandstone buttes were little more than silhouettes against the horizon, their familiar shapes emerging slowly from the night. Then it happened. The sun crested the distant horizon and sent a burst of light across the valley floor. For a few fleeting moments, the desert awakened. Snow left behind by a recent storm caught the warm glow of morning, creating a striking contrast between winter's cool touch and the desert's timeless red earth. What makes Monument Valley so special is not simply its beauty, but its scale. These monumental formations rise hundreds of feet above the valley floor, standing as silent witnesses to millions of years of geological change. They have watched countless sunrises and sunsets, yet each new day feels as though it is being revealed for the very first time.Standing there, camera in hand, it was impossible not to feel small. The landscape stretched endlessly in every direction, while the rising sun transformed stone, snow, and sky into a scene that felt both ancient and eternal. Some places leave an impression.Monument Valley leaves a memory.
RED GIANTS | Some landscapes are so iconic that they feel familiar long before you ever arrive. Monument Valley was one of those places for me.Yet standing there before sunrise, wrapped against the desert cold and watching the first light touch the East and West Mittens, I realized no photograph, movie, or postcard can prepare you for the real thing. As dawn approached, the valley slowly emerged from darkness. The sandstone buttes, carved by millions of years of erosion, stood like ancient guardians over the desert floor. Then, almost imperceptibly, the rising sun began to paint their faces with warm crimson light while the surrounding landscape remained cloaked in shadow. For a few brief minutes, the Mittens seemed to glow from within. The scene carried an unexpected stillness. No crowds. No traffic. No distractions. Just the quiet transition between night and day across one of the most recognizable landscapes in the American West. The Navajo people call this place home, and it is easy to understand why this land inspires such reverence. The scale is immense, the silence profound, and the beauty timeless.Watching the sun rise between these legendary formations felt less like witnessing a sunrise and more like witnessing a ritual that has repeated itself for countless generations.A new day had begun, but the valley remained unchanged.
FADED SHELTER
CATHEDRAL OF MIST
ALONE IN THE VEIL | Monument Valley is photographed thousands of times each year, usually beneath brilliant blue skies or fiery desert sunsets. But on this winter morning, the landscape revealed a very different personality.A dense layer of fog drifted across the valley floor, wrapping itself around the sandstone buttes like a veil. Most photographers packed away their cameras, unable to see the formations clearly through the mist.I chose to wait.Using an eight minute exposure, I allowed time itself to become part of the image. The moving fog transformed from a collection of drifting clouds into a luminous, ethereal shroud. What had been a familiar landmark became something mysterious, almost supernatural. As the exposure progressed, the sandstone monolith emerged from the mist like an ancient apparition. The long exposure softened the movement of the fog while preserving the strength and permanence of the butte itself. For a brief moment, the landscape seemed suspended between reality and dream. What fascinates me most about this image is the contrast it represents. The fog is temporary, changing by the second. The rock has stood here for millions of years. One is fleeting. The other endures. The photograph became a study of both.A portrait of permanence wrapped in a veil of time.
EDGE OF THE WEST | Monument Valley is often celebrated for its towering sandstone buttes, but on this morning my attention was drawn to something much smaller.A lone Navajo rider sat quietly on horseback at the edge of a rocky overlook, framed by one of the most iconic landscapes in the American West. Behind him, a low blanket of fog drifted across the valley floor, softening the horizon and adding an unexpected layer of mystery to the scene. What struck me most was the sense of connection. The rider wasn't simply in the landscape. He belonged to it.For generations, the Navajo people have called this remarkable place home. Long before it became known through movies, photographs, and travel brochures, these lands were woven into the history, culture, and daily lives of the people who lived here.As the morning light illuminated the red desert and the fog slowly dissolved into the distance, horse and rider seemed perfectly at ease, standing watch over a landscape that has changed little over countless generations. The scene felt timeless. Not a performance. Not a pose.Simply a quiet moment between a man, his horse, and the land that shaped them both.
VALLEY OF GIANTS
THE LONG ROAD WEST | There are certain roads that become destinations in their own right. This is one of them.As I crested the rise and saw the highway stretching endlessly toward Monument Valley, I immediately understood why this view has become one of the most photographed roads in America. The asphalt ribbon seemed to pull the eye straight into the heart of the desert, leading toward a horizon filled with legendary sandstone monuments.Every traveler who drives this road experiences the same anticipation. With each passing mile, the buttes grow larger. Their silhouettes slowly transform from distant shapes into towering formations that dominate the landscape. The journey itself becomes part of the experience. What makes this scene so compelling is its simplicity. A road. A horizon. A destination.Yet together they create something powerful. The road invites us forward. The desert reminds us of the vastness of the American Southwest. The monuments on the horizon stand as silent promises of adventure waiting just ahead.I stopped for only a few minutes to make this photograph, but I suspect nearly everyone who travels this route feels the same urge. Some scenes are simply impossible to drive past. They call you to stop, look, and appreciate the journey. Not just the destination.

STILL HORIZON | Not every landscape offers an obvious focal point. Sometimes the scene appears almost empty, and it is only through patience and a different way of seeing that its character emerges. With a long exposure, the movement of water and sky dissolves into soft gradients, leaving behind a quiet conversation between light, texture, and space. The scattered rocks become an anchor in an otherwise minimalist world, inviting the viewer to slow down and appreciate the subtle beauty often overlooked in the rush to find something grand.

A vibrant bed of tulips stretches across the garden while, tucked among the trees, a bronze statue of one of Jim Gibbs' granddaughters reaches toward the beauty surrounding her.The contrast between the playful figure, the elegant crepe myrtles, and the explosion of spring color creates a sense of wonder and innocence. It feels less like a formal garden and more like a cherished family memory preserved in bronze, inviting visitors to slow down, explore, and see the world through a child's eyes once again.

LEFT OPEN TOO LONG | Lined up like forgotten sentinels, these weathered doors stand shoulder to shoulder, each one carrying the scars of a different journey. Their faded colors, peeling paint, and rusted edges hint at lives once lived on highways and back roads before finding a final resting place among the pines of Old Car City. What draws the eye is the sense of individuality within the collection. No two doors are exactly alike, yet together they form a surprisingly vibrant mosaic of color, texture, and memory. Stripped from their original purpose, they become something entirely different: a gallery of stories waiting for someone to imagine where each one once led.
SINKING INTO SILENCE | A carpet of wet pine needles slowly reclaims what was once a symbol of motion and freedom. Stripped of its wheels and grounded by time, the old automobile seems to have surrendered to the forest, its faded paint reflecting the muted colors of a rainy day. The soft mist and shallow depth of field create a quiet, almost melancholy atmosphere. What makes this image compelling is the contrast between permanence and decay. Built to travel great distances, the car now sits motionless as seasons pass overhead, each year adding another layer of needles and leaves. Nature is patient. Eventually, even steel yields to the slow rhythm of the woods.
FOREST REFLECTION
BURIED IN PINES | Blanketed by pine needles and softened by time, this vintage Plymouth seems less abandoned than remembered. The painterly treatment enhances the dreamlike quality of the scene, transforming metal, glass, and rust into something that feels suspended between reality and memory. It is as though the car has been quietly waiting in the forest while the decades drifted past. What draws me to this image is the sense of nostalgia it evokes. Once polished and proudly driven, it now rests beneath a canopy of trees, its story written in weathered paint and accumulated seasons. Nature has become both caretaker and artist, turning a forgotten automobile into a hauntingly beautiful relic of another era.
GROUNDED IN THE PINES | Hidden among the pines, this forgotten Chevrolet has become something more than an abandoned vehicle. Draped in moss, lichen, pine needles, and decades of weather, it appears less like a machine and more like a creature of the forest itself, quietly standing watch as nature slowly reclaims every surface. What captivates me is the remarkable palette created by time. Greens, golds, rusts, and grays blend together like an impressionist painting, transforming decay into beauty. The truck may have stopped moving long ago, but in its stillness it has found a second life as part of the woodland landscape, where nature and history now share the same story.
THE LAST TURN | A simple door handle becomes the focal point in a composition defined by age, texture, and color. Layers of oxidized paint, rust, and lichen create a rich patina that feels almost painterly, transforming an ordinary piece of machinery into an unexpected work of art. What fascinates me about Old Car City is how time reveals rather than erases. The vehicle itself becomes secondary as decades of weathering produce colors and textures impossible to manufacture. The result is a quiet study in impermanence, where decay becomes beauty and abandonment becomes character.
MOSS AND MEMORY | A simple door handle is all that remains of an invitation to a world long gone. Time has transformed painted steel into a rich tapestry of color and texture, where rust, lichen, and weather have created patterns no artist could deliberately reproduce. What was once functional has become unexpectedly beautiful.I am drawn to images like this because they ask a quiet question: would you still open the door? Though the vehicle itself has surrendered to time, the handle remains, waiting patiently as if someone might still arrive, turn the latch, and continue a journey that ended decades ago.
ORANGE RELIC | Once built for work, this old Chevrolet pickup now rests where the forest has chosen to keep it. Pine needles blanket the ground, saplings emerge around it, and the truck seems to sink a little deeper into the earth with each passing season. What was once movement has become stillness. The scene feels almost cinematic. The faded orange body stands in quiet contrast to the cool blues and greens of the surrounding woods, creating the impression of a relic preserved in time. Rather than disappearing, the truck has become part of the landscape itself, a reminder that even the strongest machines eventually surrender to nature's patient embrace.
LICHEN AND OXIDE | Time, weather, and nature collaborated on this canvas for decades. What was once painted metal has become a rich tapestry of rust, lichen, oxidation, and fading pigment, creating an abstract composition that feels more like a modern painting than the surface of an old automobile. At Old Car City, I often find myself looking past the vehicles and into the details. In this close study of texture, the story is no longer about transportation but transformation. The machine disappears, leaving behind color, texture, and the quiet artistry of time itself.

THE QUITE OF NELSON | Great museums are more than buildings. They are places where imagination, history, and human creativity come together. Standing before the Nelson Art Gallery in Kansas City, I was struck by the sense of permanence and quiet dignity that defines the institution.Rather than focus solely on the architecture, I chose a wider perspective that emphasized the relationship between the museum and its surroundings. The symmetrical rows of trees draw the eye toward the classical façade, while the dramatic sky above adds a sense of scale and atmosphere. The building feels almost ceremonial, standing as a beacon of culture amid an ever changing world. The monochrome treatment removes distractions and emphasizes form, light, and texture. The museum's clean lines and imposing columns become timeless, while the streaking clouds overhead introduce movement and energy. Together they create a balance between stability and change, permanence and motion.Museums preserve the achievements of the past, but they also inspire future generations. In that sense, the Nelson is more than a repository of art. It is a monument to curiosity, creativity, and the enduring value of human expression.

QUIET TRANSIT | Anyone who knows Atlanta knows this scene is impossible. The Downtown Connector is one of the busiest stretches of highway in the Southeast, carrying hundreds of thousands of vehicles every day. Traffic jams are expected. Empty lanes are not.Yet through the magic of a long exposure, the constant flow of cars vanished. What remained was something rarely seen: a silent corridor leading into the heart of the city. The railroad tracks and highway lanes become powerful leading lines, drawing the eye toward the skyline as if the city itself is pulling you forward. The absence of traffic transforms the image. What is normally chaotic becomes calm. What is usually defined by movement becomes still. The city appears to be holding its breath, suspended in a moment outside of time. The dramatic sky adds to the mood, with clouds streaking overhead while the buildings stand firm beneath them. Together they create a study in contrasts: motion and stillness, permanence and change, reality and illusion.Photography has the power to reveal scenes that never truly exist. For a few seconds, Atlanta became a place without traffic, a sight as remarkable as the skyline itself.

NEON STARDUST | Las Vegas has always reinvented itself. Hotels are demolished, casinos reimagined, and entire eras disappear almost overnight. Yet scattered among the city's constant transformation are pieces of its past that refuse to fade away. The Neon Museum preserves these icons of another time. Signs that once blazed above casinos, restaurants, and showrooms now rest together in a place where their stories can continue to be told. What might have ended in a scrapyard instead became a celebration of the city's history and imagination. On this particular night, the stars aligned in more ways than one. Beneath the glowing neon, the Milky Way stretched across the desert sky, creating an unexpected connection between human creativity and the timeless universe above. The vibrant colors and electric energy of the signs stand in contrast to the quiet permanence of the stars, reminding us that both leave their mark on history.Every sign here represents a chapter of Las Vegas. Together they form a visual archive of dreams, ambition, entertainment, and reinvention. What was once considered obsolete has become art.I am grateful that visionaries recognized the value of preserving these treasures. Without them, a remarkable part of Las Vegas history would have vanished forever.

STONE IN BALANCE | In a landscape defined by extremes, this graceful arch feels almost impossible.Surrounded by massive granite boulders and the harsh beauty of the desert, nature somehow carved a shape that appears delicate, elegant, and surprisingly human. The sweeping curve seems less like stone and more like an arm reaching across time, embracing the ancient rocks that surround it.I was drawn to the simplicity of the scene. No dramatic skies. No colorful sunset. Just form, texture, shadow, and light.Black and white felt like the natural choice.Without color competing for attention, the viewer can appreciate the smooth contours sculpted by countless centuries of wind, water, temperature, and patience. Every crack, curve, and surface tells a story measured not in years, but in geologic time.Standing before it, I was reminded that some of nature's most beautiful creations are not the largest or most famous. They are the quiet details hidden among the grand landscapes, waiting for someone to notice. This arch may seem permanent, but it is only a moment in an ongoing process of creation and erosion. Someday it too will disappear. For now, it stands as a reminder that even stone can possess grace.

THE COMFORT OF COMPANY | In June, darkness never truly arrives in Iceland. At nearly 10 p.m., the low Arctic sun still bathed the landscape in warm golden light, creating the perfect setting for this tender moment among a colony of Atlantic puffins. While puffins are often celebrated for their colorful beaks and comical appearance, moments like this reveal a softer side. One bird gently rests her head against her mate's chest, a quiet gesture of comfort and companionship amid the activity of the nesting grounds. Surrounded by the glow of an Icelandic summer evening, the scene becomes less about wildlife and more about a universal expression of connection, trust, and devotion.

CLIFFSIDE COMPANIONS | If puffins held board meetings, this would be the opening scene. Three birds stand along the cliff edge, each seemingly focused on a different agenda while carefully avoiding eye contact with one another.Beyond their comical appearance, Atlantic puffins are among Iceland's most beloved seabirds. Their colorful beaks, bright orange feet, and expressive personalities make them endlessly entertaining to watch. In the soft evening light of an Icelandic summer, these three briefly aligned themselves on the rocky ledge, creating a scene that feels equal parts wildlife portrait and family gathering. The longer I watched puffins, the more I became convinced that no other bird combines dignity and comedy quite so effortlessly.

SANCTUARY OF THE LUPINES | For a few brief weeks each year, the Icelandic countryside transforms into a sea of purple lupines, carpeting the landscape beneath the iconic church at Vík. Set against rolling green hills and volcanic slopes, the simple white chapel stands as a quiet symbol of resilience in one of the world's most dramatic environments. The contrast of colors feels almost unreal, yet it is entirely natural. In the stillness of an Icelandic summer, wildflowers, light, and landscape come together to create a scene of remarkable peace and beauty.

WHERE LIGHT FINDS STONE | Emerging from a fortress of ancient basalt columns, Svartifoss descends in a graceful ribbon of light through one of Iceland's most remarkable geological landscapes. The dark volcanic formations, sculpted by fire and time, create a natural cathedral that frames the waterfall with striking symmetry. In monochrome, the scene becomes timeless. The luminous cascade stands in quiet contrast to the rugged stone, revealing a place where the forces of creation and erosion continue their endless conversation. A study in texture, light, and enduring beauty, Svartifoss remains one of Iceland's most captivating natural wonders.

MIDNIGHT CHAPEL | Few buildings are as closely tied to Iceland's identity as its iconic black churches. Standing alone against a stark landscape, they embody the simplicity, resilience, and quiet strength of the people who built them. What drew me to this scene was not just the church itself, but the extraordinary contrast it created. The dark structure seems to emerge from the landscape, while the illuminated windows glow like beacons against the surrounding darkness. In a place known for long winters, harsh weather, and isolation, those small rectangles of light feel deeply human. The monochrome treatment strips the scene to its essentials. The black church, the distant mountains, and the soft field of wildflowers become a study in light and shadow. The glowing windows suggest warmth, shelter, and community, while the vast darkness surrounding them reminds us of the powerful forces of nature that shape life in Iceland. There is a profound sense of solitude here, but not loneliness. Instead, the image speaks of endurance, faith, and the comfort found in a single light shining against the darkness.Sometimes the smallest source of light carries the greatest meaning.
THE HOUSE BENEATH THE MOUNTAIN | Nestled beneath the towering slopes of Iceland's Snæfellsnes Peninsula, a solitary farmhouse stands surrounded by volcanic cliffs, weathered rock formations, and the still waters of a hidden cove. The scene feels almost untouched by time, where nature remains the dominant presence and human habitation is little more than a quiet footnote. The contrast between the rugged landscape and the simple white home speaks to Iceland's enduring spirit. Remote, resilient, and deeply connected to the land. It is a place that invites reflection, where silence becomes part of the experience and solitude feels like a gift rather than an absence.
HIDDEN CHAPPEL | Weathered by centuries of wind, rain, and northern winters, this traditional Icelandic turf church seems to rise naturally from the landscape itself. Built from timber, earth, and grass, it reflects a time when survival depended on living in harmony with the harsh environment. In monochrome, the scene feels timeless. The worn path leading to the doorway invites the imagination to step back through generations of worshippers, travelers, and farmers who sought shelter, community, and hope within its humble walls. A quiet reminder that the simplest structures often hold the richest stories.
SHADOW AND DEVOTION
OUT OF ITS ELEMENT | Weathered by years at sea and now surrendered to the elements, this aging vessel stands beneath gathering clouds as if bracing for one final voyage. The peeling paint, rusted steel, and circling birds tell a story of endurance, while the darkening sky hints at nature's enduring power. There is a quiet tension in the scene. The ship remains steadfast, yet the approaching storm reminds us that all things eventually yield to time. A portrait of resilience, solitude, and the timeless relationship between humanity and the sea.
CLIFFS OF THE NORTH COAST
A LIFE WITH SPACE
FALLS INTO THE SEA | Along the rugged coastline of northern Iceland, a solitary waterfall spills from towering sea cliffs into the waters below, creating a scene of remarkable beauty and solitude. Far from crowds and carved by centuries of wind, ice, and ocean storms, the landscape feels untouched by time.In monochrome, the waterfall becomes a ribbon of light against the dark volcanic cliffs, emphasizing the raw power and quiet majesty of this remote corner of Iceland. A place where land, sea, and sky meet in perfect harmony, reminding us how small we are within nature's vast design.

ENDLESS ARRIVAL
ALDEYJARFOSS | Few waterfalls capture the spirit of Iceland quite like Aldeyjarfoss. Emerging from the rugged highlands, the powerful cascade plunges into a canyon lined with remarkably symmetrical basalt columns, where fire and water have spent millennia shaping the landscape together. The contrast is striking. Soft, flowing water framed by ancient volcanic stone. It is a scene that feels both powerful and elegant, revealing why Aldeyjarfoss is often considered one of Iceland's most beautiful and photogenic waterfalls. Here, the forces that created the island remain on full display, etched into every column and carried in every drop of water.
A /SIMPLE FAITH
SANCTUARY IN GREEN
ANCIENT WITNESS
THE STONE GIANT | Rising from the still waters of northwest Iceland, Hvítserkur stands alone against the vastness of sea and sky. Shaped by centuries of wind and waves, the basalt formation has inspired legends, with many seeing the silhouette of a dragon, a rhinoceros, or a mythical creature frozen in stone. The simplicity of the scene is its strength. A solitary sea stack, distant mountains, and endless water reduced to soft tones by a long exposure. In the quiet blue light, the landscape feels suspended between reality and imagination, inviting the viewer to pause and appreciate the beauty found in solitude.
THE DAY'S LAST SECRET | At one o'clock in the morning, the sun still lingers just below the horizon, painting the Icelandic sky in brilliant shades of crimson, orange, and gold. The winding tidal channel mirrors the spectacle above, transforming a quiet landscape into a river of fire.In the land of the midnight sun, night never truly arrives. Instead, darkness yields to an endless twilight, where time seems to pause and the boundary between day and night quietly disappears.
DREAM IN COLOR
RHIANNON'S RAINBOW | For a few fleeting moments, the sky seemed painted in shades not found on any artist's palette. A brilliant double rainbow arched across the horizon while violet, magenta, and rose colored light transformed the landscape into something almost dreamlike.Nature occasionally offers scenes so extraordinary they feel imagined, yet this one lasted just long enough to be remembered forever.
THE SKY ON FIRE
DETTIFOSS
BASALT AND SILENCE | Along Iceland’s rugged coastline, nature and design seem to speak the same language. The towering lighthouse rises from the landscape with clean geometric simplicity, while the ancient basalt formations below mirror its vertical lines as though the earth itself sculpted the perfect foundation for it.What captivated me was the harmony between the natural and the man made. The basalt columns, formed by volcanic forces thousands of years ago, feel remarkably contemporary beside the minimalist lighthouse. Together they create a composition that feels both timeless and modern. The long exposure softened the sea and stretched the clouds into elegant ribbons across the sky, bringing a sense of stillness to an otherwise harsh environment. The distant mountains fading into the horizon add another layer of quiet isolation that is uniquely Icelandic. There is a calm strength in this scene. The lighthouse stands as a symbol of guidance and endurance, while the surrounding basalt reminds us of the immense geological power that shaped this extraordinary island. One built by human hands. The other forged by fire and time.

GRAVITY AND GRACE
STORMLIGHT OVER KIRKJUFELL | Rising from the Icelandic landscape like a solitary sentinel, Kirkjufell stands beneath racing storm clouds while the waterfall below traces a path of silk through the foreground. For a brief moment, shifting light broke through the darkness, revealing the mountain's unmistakable form. One of Iceland's most photographed peaks, yet no two visits are ever the same. The weather, the light, and the mood of the mountain are always changing.
FIELD OF INDIGO DREAMS
AXIS OF FAITH | Rising from the heart of Reykjavík, this iconic church stands as both a spiritual landmark and a symbol of Iceland itself. Its soaring concrete facade was inspired by the basalt columns that define much of the island's volcanic landscape, creating a structure that feels as though it emerged directly from the earth. What drew me to this scene was its commanding symmetry and quiet power. The statue of Icelandic explorer Leif Erikson stands watch in the foreground, while the towering church rises behind him like a monument to both faith and perseverance. The dramatic sky and monochromatic treatment strip away distraction, allowing form, light, and geometry to take center stage. There is a solemnity here that feels uniquely Icelandic. The architecture is bold yet restrained, monumental yet deeply connected to the natural forces that shaped the island. Standing in the square, I was struck by how the church seems less like a building and more like a guardian, watching over the city beneath it.This image is less about a destination and more about presence. A study in strength, resilience, and the enduring relationship between nature, history, and human aspiration.

GREEN CROWN OF THE HIGHLANDS | A shaft of sunlight breaks through the storm, illuminating a solitary green peak amid Iceland's vast volcanic highlands. Surrounded by black sands, ancient lava, and gathering clouds, the mountain glows like a beacon in an otherwise untamed landscape. After a challenging climb to reach this hidden vantage point, the reward was a fleeting moment when storm, light, and landscape came together in perfect harmony.
BASALT RHYTHM | Towering basalt columns rise from the Icelandic landscape in a remarkable display of natural geometry. Formed as ancient lava cooled and fractured, the cliff face reveals thousands of interlocking columns, each shaped by volcanic forces that helped create the island itself. At first glance, the scene appears rugged and chaotic. Look closer, however, and patterns begin to emerge as stone, water, and vegetation weave together across the cliff face. Small pockets of green cling to the rock wherever a foothold can be found, softening the dark volcanic stone and bringing life to a landscape forged by fire.
LOST SOULS
THE LONG FALL | Hidden deep within Iceland's rugged highlands, Háifoss plunges more than 400 feet into an ancient canyon, making it one of the tallest waterfalls in the country. Surrounded by volcanic cliffs, winding rivers, and vast open wilderness, it remains one of Iceland's most spectacular yet surprisingly overlooked natural wonders. The scale is difficult to comprehend until standing at the canyon's edge. Mist rises from the depths below while a second waterfall tumbles down the opposite wall, adding to the grandeur of the scene. Far from the crowds of the Ring Road, Háifoss offers a glimpse of Iceland at its wildest, where immense landscapes and powerful forces still dominate the horizon.

WHERE MORNING WAKES | Hidden within Iceland's remote highlands, Sigöldugljúfur is often called the Valley of Tears for the countless springs and waterfalls that emerge from its canyon walls. Fed by glacial waters and framed by volcanic landscapes, it is one of Iceland's most magical and least visited natural treasures. At sunrise, the turquoise river winds through black lava fields while waterfalls spill quietly into the canyon below. The contrast between water, rock, and light creates a landscape that feels almost untouched by time. Far from the crowds, Sigöldugljúfur offers a glimpse of the wild Iceland that still exists beyond the well traveled routes.

A BRIEF PASSAGE | At first glance, the eye is drawn to the three geese crossing the frame. Only with a sense of scale does the true story emerge. The landscape behind them is not a hillside or canyon, but the immense interior of an ancient volcanic cone, large enough to make the birds appear almost insignificant.Photographed from a distance, the scene reveals a world shaped by fire and time. Deep reds, blacks, and greens paint the volcanic terrain in abstract patterns, while scattered boulders hint at the immense forces that once built this mountain from the inside out. The geese provide a fleeting sense of life and movement within an otherwise primordial landscape, creating a striking contrast between the fragile and the monumental.Iceland often feels less like a country and more like another planet. This view into the heart of a volcano is a reminder that some of the island's most extraordinary landscapes can only be fully appreciated in person.

DANCING IN THE STARS | Few experiences compare to witnessing the northern lights in Iceland's remote highlands. Far from towns and artificial light, the night sky comes alive as curtains of green aurora drift across a sea of stars above a solitary mountain cabin. The scene feels both intimate and infinite. Warm light glows from the windows below while the sky dances overhead, creating a reminder of just how small we are beneath the wonders of the natural world. In moments like these, the Icelandic wilderness becomes something unforgettable.
