REINDEER REVERIE | Before visiting Iceland, I had no idea reindeer even lived here. Then, while traveling through the remote eastern highlands, I came upon this remarkable sight: an entire herd stretched across the horizon beneath towering volcanic cliffs.For a few moments, the landscape seemed untouched by time. The reindeer moved quietly across the barren terrain, perfectly at home in a place shaped by glaciers, mountains, and endless open space. Encounters like this are rare in Iceland, making the experience feel less like wildlife viewing and more like stumbling upon a hidden chapter of the island's natural history.
THE PULSE OF THE NORTH | Most aurora displays dance across the horizon. A coronal aurora is different. When the northern lights pass directly overhead, the curtains of light appear to converge toward a single point, creating one of the rarest and most spectacular sights in the night sky.On this unforgettable night, vivid green ribbons intertwined with deep crimson and magenta hues, forming a celestial vortex above. Lasting only moments before shifting shape again, the display felt less like a natural phenomenon and more like a glimpse into another world. For many aurora photographers, witnessing a true coronal aurora is a once in a lifetime experience.
AURORA IN THE LOWLANDS | The northern lights are always captivating, but on rare nights they reveal an even broader palette of color. Stretching across the mountains of East Iceland, vibrant green curtains were joined by vivid shades of magenta and purple, transforming the sky into a living canvas above the rugged landscape.The display evolved constantly, shifting and dancing across the horizon while reflecting faintly in the waters below. Against the backdrop of snow capped peaks and remote wilderness, the aurora created a scene that felt almost impossible to comprehend. Moments like these are why so many travelers journey to Iceland, hoping to witness nature at its most extraordinary.
WHERE COLOR BECOMES LAND III | Iceland constantly reveals landscapes that challenge your perception of what the Earth should look like. Near Lake Mývatn, geothermal activity transforms the terrain into a palette of vivid blues, golds, whites, and grays, shaped by heat, minerals, and volcanic forces beneath the surface.What makes this image especially meaningful is that these colors were invisible from where I stood. Only after launching my drone did this abstract world emerge, revealing patterns and textures that seemed more like a painting than a landscape. From above, the sulfur fields became a reminder that some of nature's most extraordinary creations can only be appreciated from a different perspective.
WINTER'S EXCEPTION | Winter had firmly taken hold of Lake Mývatn. The surrounding waters were locked beneath a sheet of ice, yet this tiny island remained surrounded by open water, a small refuge untouched by the season's grip.Seen from above, the scene takes on an almost surreal quality. Moss covered rock, delicate vegetation, and clear water create a natural mosaic that feels suspended in time. The contrast between the isolated island and the frozen landscape around it serves as a reminder that even in Iceland's harshest winters, pockets of life and resilience quietly endure.
